"The last big hurdle" (Not at the Olympics)

“Since my husband went on Social Security Disability we've just had to cut back and cut back and cut back,” said Debbie in Boulder, CO. Debbie’s husband, Anthony, is on permanent oxygen support.

“We cut out cable,  internet, long distance phone. But our utilities is one place we've struggled. So I'm just so excited for this. This is our last big hurdle." She is happy that GRID’s Solar Affordable Housing Program will save her money, so she will “actually be able to pay [her] utility bill every month."  With solar, the couple are projected to save more than $470 every year.

The couple, who built their house with Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, are very involved with their community and have been long-time advocates of Habitat.  “I just love the volunteers,” said Debbie. “It is so much fun to talk with them at lunchtime. Being a part of Habitat, it isn’t new for me, I helped build my house and my neighbors’ houses.” Volunteers from Mazzetti completed the project, installing 18 solar panels on a hot summer day.

GRID doesn't get to give out gold medals like the Olympic committee, but if we could, couples like Debbie and Anthony would surely be in the running for a community spirit award. And to all our volunteers, donors, clients, partners, and sponsors, thank you for supporting GRID's efforts to create a successful transition to clean, renewable energy that includes everyone!
