Steve was born in Frankfurt, Germany, but has lived most of his life in California; English is his second language. He grew up in the Bay Area and graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Geography in 1991. Steve began his professional life in Las Vegas where he worked for Acres Gaming and then International Game Technology in the casino systems field as a drafter and project coordinator for over 10 years. Weary of working in an industry which arguably prays on society, in 2010 Steve decided to make a change and dedicate his efforts to renewable energy, setting his sights on contributing to the greater good through work in solar photovoltaics. After attending several PV installer ‘boot camps’ in Texas and California, he found GRID Alternatives which launched his career in solar power systems. After coming up ‘through the ranks’ at GRID, first as a volunteer, then an unpaid Team Leader and ultimately as a salaried Installation Supervisor for residential systems, Steve decided to take a professional development detour for several years with Black Rock Solar in Nevada where he supervised the installation of several commercial-scale 100kW+ roof and ground mount PV systems on non-profit facilities in Las Vegas and Henderson. Steve now lives in Atascadero on California’s Central Coast, and once again works for GRID Alternatives, initially in the capacity of Commercial Construction Manager and now Engineering Manager, focused primarily on supporting the organizations efforts with multi-family and commercial projects. Steve is excited to be a part of GRID Alternatives’ mission of providing solar electric power and job training to underserved communities across the country.
