The 2020 election isn’t coming November 3—it’s already here. And it’s not over until the last vote is counted.
This election will make a huge difference for the future of economic and racial equity and clean energy, not just in the Mid-Atlantic but across the United States. You can make a huge difference for the election. Even though volunteer opportunities at GRID Mid-Atlantic solar installations are limited by the pandemic, you can still use your time and energy to help us bring solar energy and solar jobs to more people. America will only achieve the equitable clean energy transition we need through a strong democracy that asserts its will at the polls.
Here are the best ways to maximize your impact now and over the next 27 days:
Check Your Registration. Some state voter registration deadlines have already passed, but DC, Maryland, and Virginia allow registration through October 13. Easily check or re-check your status at Vote.org, then send the link to your loved ones.
Make a Plan. Whether you’re voting early in person, voting absentee or by mail, or going to the polls on November 3, make sure you have a safe plan for when, where, and how that meets your state’s election rules.
Be Informed. Vote411 is a great resource to easily find out what races and ballot initiatives are on your ballot and where federal, state, and local candidates stand on issues.
Get Out The Vote. Start by encouraging everyone you know to make a plan and vote, and then, if you have time, check out other powerful and nonpartisan volunteer opportunities with the Environmental Voter Corps, National Voter Corps, or (through next week) Vote Forward’s Social Campaigns.
Protect Every Vote. Volunteers with groups like the nonpartisan Election Protection will be voters’ first line of defense against voting disruptions, intimidation, or suppression that could silence their voices—especially in some of the underserved and disenfranchised communities where GRID works. Stay Committed. If you find yourself waiting in a very long line to vote in person, please report it to Election Protection by calling or texting 866-OUR-VOTE (check here for other languages)—and then boost yourself and your fellow voters with free pizza.
