Changing the narrative on re-entry candidates

In December, we were pleased to invite our network of solar employers to the GRID North Valley office for a discussion on supporting employment opportunities for re-entry populations. Historically burdened by the stigma that can follow formerly incarcerated individuals, job seekers who are seeking to re-enter the workforce can face undue obstacles; our re-entry program seeks to remove some of these obstacles by creating strong pathways to a brighter future for promising solar trainees. Over 10 attendees came out for a powerful discussion that was led by Tommy Minor, Workforce Development and Re-Entry Services Supervisor, in conjunction with the Sacramento Area Reentry Coalition and its organizer, Crystal Richardson.

The Sacramento Area Reentry Coalition shares GRID's value of working to change the narrative around re-entry populations in service of social justice. During each of their monthly meetings, members unite and collaborate on how they can help the reentry population to reduce recidivism. Current laws, information, resources and funding opportunities are common topics, along with upcoming events. We hope to continue to have these discussions to strengthen the network around re-entry populations, to increase awareness, and to fight the stigma that has historically come with incarceration. If you would like to get involved in this critically-relevant conversation, email Tommy at tminor@gridalternatives.org and find out how you can be a part of the change.
