Solarthon

Los Angeles is increasingly becoming a clean technology hub, but for South Los Angeles residents, who face severe economic and environmental challenges—high rates of foreclosure, unemployment, and pollution—the benefits of clean energy are typically out of reach. All that changed in one neighborhood on Saturday November 10th, when GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles installed solar electric systems for ten low-income families in the lovely Willowbrook area.

Put on your party hardhat and celebrate: the 7th Annual Bay Area Solarthon on July 21st in San Jose was a HUGE success! Thank you to all of our amazing sponsors, Solar Champions, homeowners and job trainees from the Center for Employment Training who all came together to successfully install 13 solar electric systems (a total of 262 solar panels) in one day!

It’s official: the North Valley GRID Alternatives Office successfully completed our first annual Solarthon on October 6th, in Chico, CA. Thank you to all our supporters!

We would like to celebrate Capital City Solar’s support of the North Valley Solarthon Women’s Build team. At the Solarthon event on October 6, the Women’s Build team will be installing a 2 kW system for a single-mother of two.

On Saturday, May 19th GRID IE hosted its inaugural community solar installation and annual fundraiser, Solarthon, in the City of San Jacinto, California.

In April it was Madera, a small agricultural community outside of Fresno; in May, San Jacinto; in June, National City, San Diego’s unassuming neighbor, and East San Jose in July. All over California, entire working–class neighborhoods are going solar through GRID Alternatives’ “Solarthons.” During these one-day events, hundreds of volunteers from all walks of life join low-income homeowners to install solar electric systems on multiple homes in one neighborhood in one day, while raising money and awareness for GRID Alternatives’ work.
