GLA Hosts 2nd Annual Solar Job Fair

On Wednesday, as part of Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, the largest green building conference and expo in the world, GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles (GLA) held a solar job fair so employers could directly connect with many of LA’s talented and diverse solar job seekers. We couldn’t have done it without our partners, USGBC, Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), and California Solar Energy Industries Association (CalSEIA). Special thanks to Dominique Hargreaves, the Executive Director of USGBC-LA for her long standing support of GLA and the work that we do.

More than 300 individuals attended the job fair seeking opportunities ranging from installation to sales and design. The 15 employers present collected more than 486 resumes, while arranging or conducting more than 60 interviews. Some of the most exciting news came at the end of the day when employers reported that five individuals were hired on the spot!

Events like Wednesday’s help to support the growth of the solar industry in Los Angeles County, which currently employs more than 15,000 individuals.  While this impressive number is the most of any county in America, GLA’s mission is to make sure that LA’s underserved communities are connected to this growing pipeline of employment and career opportunities.

We hope to continue to support the solar industry and solar jobs growth in Los Angeles by bringing together solar industry employers, professionals, enthusiasts, and job trainees.

Our LA Mayor, Eric Garcetti, spoke at Greenbuild and we are proud to say that this solar job fair and GLA’s LA500 pledge are part of his Sustainable City pLAn and the City’s efforts to bring good green jobs to the angelenos who need them most.
