GRID helped save my life

“GRID helped save my life.”

These were the exact words from a GRID client and new homeowner, who faced paying a mortgage and high electric bills — leaving her stressed and financially depleted. This is a situation that I know oh so well.

As a native Washingtonian, I grew up in a single-parent household. My mom raised three kids - two sons and one daughter - during a time when it was unacceptable for a woman to do so alone. I witnessed her many successes as well as her failures; her joys as well as her sorrows, but most of all, I witnessed her integrity and strength, as she provided for us on a part-time salary.

In 1998, my mom was diagnosed with emphysema, making her unable to work. The mandatory liters of oxygen that she needs to survive resulted in high electric bills - which became the responsibility of my siblings and mine. Thankfully, we had the collective resources to ensure those bills were paid. Sadly, that is not always the case for many families facing similar circumstances.

Since 2014, GRID Mid-Atlantic has provided no-cost solar energy to low-income and underserved communities throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia. With your help, we can continue our work and make an impact by providing financial relief through reduced electricity bills.

I ask that you donate $20 to our Give Solar campaign and help us reach our goal of $2,500. Each dollar raised will help provide no-cost solar energy to families who desperately need it.

Our mission is helping to provide stability to communities and families -- families like mine, families like yours. So stand with us and support the work of GRID Mid-Atlantic through Give Solar. Together, we can help provide no cost solar energy to everyone - one kilowatt at a time.
