Green Socials: Building LA’s Sustainable Future

In celebration of World Environment Day, GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles hosted our second Green Socials - a vibrant gathering designed to connect the people and organizations powering LA’s green future. This quarterly event series is quickly becoming a cornerstone for collaboration in the region’s growing green economy.

Held at our Downtown LA warehouse, the event brought together a dynamic mix of trainees, employers, funders, government leaders, sustainability advocates, and workforce partners. Attendees enjoyed a high-energy afternoon featuring inspiring speakers, hands-on solar demonstrations led by GRID trainees, and live music from local band Tihuan Blues.

But Green Socials are more than just a networking event. They’re a space where equity meets opportunity—a place to share ideas, build partnerships, and shape real-world solutions. Together, we’re cultivating: Cross-sector collaboration, community-driven solutions, workforce development pathways and meaningful conversations that spark long-term impact.

Here is what some participants had to say about Green Socials:

Green Socials are about collaboration, opportunity, and building a more equitable, sustainable future together.

Jamie Stark, Manager, Growth Portfolio REDF

“We all know that we need more solar panel installers, we need more workers to do this work, we have to make this space where people can work together and make these connections”

Kevin G. Harbour, Sr., President, BizFed Institute

A lot of the work is happening in silos in LA and so we wanted to bring everyone together – that’s from employers, funders and other CBOs to really figure out connections and opportunities.

Shameka Dixon, Workforce Director, GRID Alternatives LA

As we continue to grow this series, one thing remains clear: building a sustainable, equitable future takes all of us. From solar trainees to seasoned employers, from grassroots organizers to policymakers—everyone has a role in LA’s green transition.

Stay tuned for future Green Socials, and join us in transforming how LA does sustainability—with community, justice, and opportunity at the center.
