On Friday, June 10, a team of eight SnapNrack employee volunteers from up and down the California coast came out with GRID in Atascadero to install a 2.6kW system for the Bernal family. The system will save the family nearly $25,000 over its 25-year lifetime, but homeowner Laura Bernal says she’s motivated more by the 50 tons of greenhouse gas emissions her system will prevent than by the savings.
"The environmental benefits are my number one concern,” said Laura. “If we can use the sun's energy instead of oil, gas and nuclear, that would be the best choice. Even if it saved me no money I would still want to do it. The savings are just a bonus."
Laura learned about GRID’s program from a neighbor. She had thought about going solar before but didn’t think she could afford it, so when she found out she qualified for no-cost solar through GRID, she couldn’t have been happier.
“I didn't think it would be this easy,” she said.
Big thanks to all the SnapNrack volunteers who braved the heat and the two-story ladder to make solar happen for Laura and her family! Click here for more great photos from the installation.
