At GRID Alternatives Inland Empire (GRID IE), the Workforce team plays a vital role in shaping futures, providing hands-on training, and opening doors to career opportunities in clean energy. Through their efforts at the Clean Tech Training Center (CTTC), they recruit, train, and place interns in all departments throughout GRID IE.
The demand for clean energy solutions continues to grow, and GRID IE is at the forefront of this transition, ensuring that people from diverse backgrounds have the opportunity to enter the green workforce. Our comprehensive training programs equip participants with the technical and soft skills to thrive in solar energy and other sustainable industries. One of these success stories is Mark Stricklen, who completed his Construction Internship in 2024 and has since built a bright future for himself in the electrical industry.

Recently, GRID IE’s Workforce Coordinator, Paola Ramos, caught up with Mark to see where life had taken him after his internship. His response was inspiring: “I’m living in my successes.”
Since completing the program, Mark has secured a job as an electrician in North Carolina and joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), a major milestone in his career journey. Reflecting on his time at GRID IE, Mark expressed deep gratitude for the experience.
“I’m thankful for the knowledge GRID IE gave me––nothing was held back. Everyone gave me their all.”
Mark’s journey wasn’t just about learning technical skills; it was about personal and professional growth. Throughout his internship, he mastered reading construction plans, strengthened his teamwork and communication abilities, and developed a solid work ethic. These skills, coupled with his determination, propelled him toward his current success.
However, the road wasn’t always easy. Like many individuals navigating career transitions, Mark faced challenges. But his resilience kept him moving forward. “I’m proud of myself for sticking to the plan and not giving up,” he shared, emphasizing the importance of perseverance in achieving career goals.
When asked to describe himself in three words, Mark chose: “Purpose-driven, resilient, and tenacious.”These qualities have been key to his success and are a testament to his dedication to personal and professional growth.

For those currently enrolled in GRID IE’s programs or considering joining, Mark has valuable advice: “Set aside unwanted pride, listen, take notes, and ask questions if you don’t know. If you’ve made it to the point of training with GRID, you’ve already made it a long way.”
Mark’s story is a powerful reminder that with determination, the right training, and a supportive network, success is within reach. His journey continues, and we at GRID IE are excited to see what’s next for him. Keep building your success, Mark!
