Trainee Spotlight: Majok Ater

Trainee Spotlight: Majok Ater

We caught up with past trainee and GRID CO intern, Majok Ater, to hear about his journey into the solar industry!

Before GRID Alternatives

Before Majok started at GRID CO, he was exploring a variety of career options to discover what he was passionate about. After working at Amazon and as an Uber driver, Majok realized he wanted to work towards a great goal in his career path. That’s when he came across GRID.

How Majok Started

Majok was in GRID CO’s first cohort of Installation Basics Training (IBT), graduating from the 5-week program in September  2020. When asked about his training experience, Majok responded, “ It was an amazing experience. It was honestly something I never thought of doing, but GRID’s goal of transitioning over to a world powered by renewable energy that can benefit everyone and help the environment spoke to me. I wanted to be a part of a community like that. Being a trainee was the first step.” After he graduated from IBT, he joined GRID CO as an intern for three months with support from the City and County of Denver Office of Climate Action and Resiliency.

To wrap up his whole experience at GRID CO, Majok said, “It's a wonderful community. They are wonderful people. They’re respectful, patient, and they teach you new skills… it's just amazing. I'm glad I chose to become a part of this team.”

Where’s Majok Now?

Nearly a year after his graduation, you can find Majok installing solar on commercial rooftops around Denver with Vanguard Solar Services. He enjoys the idea of helping people save money while also protecting the environment, all by switching to renewable energy!
