Giovany Hernandez

Clean Mobility Program Manager
Born and raised in the Pico Union community of Los Angeles, Giovany is the son of Salvadoran immigrants who came to Los Angeles in the early 1980’s. Giovany is a first generation college graduate; he attended U.C. Santa Cruz, where he studied Political Science. Giovany has always been involved in community work at every stage of his life. After graduating from college, Giovany has worked and served his community as a children’s advocate, a labor organizer, an educational advocate, and a parent organizer.

Prior to joining GRID Alternatives, Giovany led and implemented 2020 Census initiatives to promote a full count of the Latino population and all undercounted communities across Los Angeles County. Subsequently, Giovany served as a CA Redistricting Program Manager to contribute to the coordination and implementation of a statewide initiative to mobilize Latinos to participate in California’s 2021 redistricting process.

In his current position as Clean Mobility Program Manager, Giovany forms part of the Clean Mobility team where he will be working on the Research Hub for Electric Technologies in Truck Applications (RHETTA) Project. This project will work toward developing high-power charging technology with the goal of a zero-emission transformation of California’s truck fleet with a community-first engagement framework to ensure that pollution-impacted, underserved, and tribal communities are involved in creating and guiding the initiative.
