On November 14, 2024, GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles (GRID GLA) was awarded the Changemaker Award at the GREEN AWARDS ceremony, held during the GREENTECH Festival at AVALON Hollywood. The award recognizes GRID GLA’s ongoing efforts to bring clean energy, job training, and economic opportunity to communities most impacted by climate change.
Since day one, GRID GLA has focused on both clean energy and equity, installing free solar energy systems for income-qualified families while providing hands-on workforce training for individuals seeking careers in green technology. This dual-impact approach was a key reason the organization stood out among this year’s nominees.
The GREEN AWARDS is a signature event of the GREENTECH Festival. Each year, the awards celebrate pioneers who are leading the charge toward a more sustainable future across industries. The Changemaker Award specifically honors organizations creating tangible, community-based change and helping bridge the gap between today’s challenges and a cleaner, more equitable tomorrow.
During last years' GREENTECH Festival, GRID GLA Executive Director Ashley Christy and Director of Workforce Development Shameka Dixon participated in a fireside chat titled “Building Sustainable Communities.” The conversation centered on GRID GLA’s holistic approach to sustainability that considers not only environmental impact, but also access, education, and long-term economic resilience for the communities served. This year, GRID GLA was invited back to the festival as a panelist, and a nominee at the awards ceremony.

“At GRID, we approach sustainability through a people-first lens. It’s not just about the solar technology itself—it’s about how that technology empowers our communities, how it impacts people’s lives, and how it drives economic growth in neighborhoods that often don’t receive that kind of investment.”
– Ashley Christy, Executive Director, GRID GLA
The recognition from the GREENTECH Festival affirms the value of GRID GLA’s mission and the impact of its grassroots model. As cities across the country look for inclusive solutions to the climate crisis, GRID GLA’s work stands as a compelling example of what’s possible when innovation, equity, and community leadership come together.
