Solar Policy Advocacy Starts with You!

GRID Alternatives is at the forefront of building stronger communities by continuing its mission to make renewable energy technology and job training accessible to underserved communities worldwide. We are in a pivotal time right now, and in order to rebuild and sustain solar jobs post Covid-19, we need to align with environmental advocates and push for legislation to strengthen our economy and establish policy that will be critical to the continued success of GRID’s mission. Americans across the political spectrum want a just and inclusive transition to clean energy, and lawmakers at every level need to be on board. Our energy future and our democracy depend on your participation, now more than ever! Here are four quick but important ways you can get involved:

  • Be a Solar Advocate! Members of Congress are still working on a relief package, and we need to make sure clean energy is included in the legislation. GRID is joining the Solar Energy Industries Association and other clean energy advocates to call on Congress to rebuild better with solar. Can you take a moment and contact your Senators and Representatives?

  • Check Your Voter Registration! You can register or check your status, get an absentee ballot, find your voting location, and more at Vote411.org and Vote.org. Then, make sure to have a plan for how you and your loved ones will vote this fall. Many states have expanded options to vote by mail or at drop-off centers in light of the pandemic. If you plan to vote in-person, please follow the CDC’s guidance to avoid spreading or contracting COVID-19.

  • Complete the Census! The self-response rates are below 70% throughout the region. The results of the 2020 Census will help determine how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding flow into communities every year for the next decade. You can complete your questionnaire by phone (in 13 different languages), by mail, or online at my2020census.gov/

  • Spread the Word! Share the importance of the Census, voting, and direct advocacy for equitable access to clean energy with your friends and neighbors! We invite you to forward this email to a friend.
