Working with lots of volunteers and people from all walks of life isn’t new to Adelaida Gonzalas. For 12 years now, she has been volunteering in her community. A lot of her time is spent at the Christian Community Center, where she does everything from translation and interpretation for the Latino community to data entry and helping sort the food bank donations.
Ada has been adamant about the benefits of solar, saying, “I had thought of solar for a long, long time. But thought, I’ll never be able to afford that, I just knew I wouldn’t.” After learning about GRID Alternatives through one of our energy efficiency partners here in Denver, she jumped on the opportunity.
But her sister was initially more hesitant. “I called my sister and she was like, Ada, I don’t know if I would qualify. And I told her it wouldn’t hurt to check. She and I are always together, she’s my kid sister. When she said she didn’t know if she wanted to go to the workshop, I said ‘I’ll be there to pick you up’. GRID Alternatives called to say I qualified and lo and behold my sister qualified too. You’ll be installing on her home next weekend.” Ada joked, “And now she is indebted to me for life”.
Ada has had a great time working with the volunteers and is excited for her sister to get the same experience. As we spoke, employees from RGS Energy were atop her roof installing a solar electric system. “I’m so grateful you can’t even imagine. I need to be thankful for everything I get in life and remember how I got it, keeps you humble. GRID has been perfect. The people that come out are respectful of my home, and they’re fun!”
