GRID Commences First Ontario SHINE Multifamily Solar Project

GRID Alternatives Inland Empire (GRID IE) and the City of Ontario partnered in the beginning of 2020 to launch TCC Ontario Solar Homes Initiative & Neighborhood Empowerment (SHINE) Program. Through Ontario SHINE and GRID’s Energy for All Program, GRID provides no cost solar to qualified single-family residents, as well as facilitates multifamily solar projects in Ontario, California. Vista Verde is the first community-solar project that is part of the Ontario SHINE initiative. The project will consist of 190 kW of rooftop solar and 164 kW of carport solar. GRID is working with architect and developer National Community Renaissance® (National CORE), an organization that provides multifamily affordable housing for low income residents of Southern California. Vista Verde is a new project, built in 2020 that will house 89 families. GRID IE construction team will oversee the solar installation along with five installers. In addition, GRID’s SolarCorps fellows will assist with installing solar for the carport installation. Vista Verde project is slated to be complete in December of this year. Ontario Together is supported by California Strategic Growth Council’s Transformative Climate Communities program with funds from California Climate Investments—Cap-and-Trade Dollars at Work, as well as Disadvantaged Communities—Single-Family Solar Homes (DAC-SASH), a State of California program overseen by the California Public Utilities Commission and administered by GRID Alternatives, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
