GRID Alternatives' unique program model leans on the generous help of volunteers who serve our clients and community. Each year, GRID Alternatives Inland Empire (GRID IE) recognizes its volunteers and trainees at a special event. GRID IE recently held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Day on March 28. The Workforce and Volunteer team hosted the event, which was a fun-filled party atmosphere that included interactive games, raffle prizes, refreshments and a recognition ceremony. “We are very thankful to our many volunteers and trainees who support GRID’s work by dedicating hours of their time,” said Workforce and Volunteer Program Specialist Sandra Romero.
This year’s honorees included:
- Brian Johnson-Attin, 136 volunteer hours
- Elias Islas, 136 volunteer hours
- Juan Alonso, 152 volunteer hours
- The “Volunteer of the Year” recipient was Zachary Cain with 194 volunteer hours
Workforce and Volunteer Manager Cindy Corrales shared a very poignant story of a special volunteer who she recognized as an ‘Honorary Volunteer of the Year,’ who sadly lost his life earlier this year in a tragic car accident. Zulfiqar Chaudhry was a dedicated GRID volunteer and team leader for over five years and later became eligible to receive a no cost solar system when he and his family moved into a new home. Zulfiqar accumulated an impressive 712 volunteer hours. He will remembered for his hard work and years of dedicated service to GRID. His name has also been added to a list of top volunteers showcased and framed on the wall at GRID IE’s office.
