“Influential, Fun, Academic…” is how Emily Guillen describes volunteering with GRID. She’s an exemplary student from Desert Hot Springs High School’s Renewable Energy Academy of Learning (REAL) and she has no problem getting to work during installations! On her latest install, GRID staff was impressed by her leadership skills when putting together the rails and showing her colleagues what to do! Emily enjoys doing hands-on work and says “If men can do it, women can do it too!”
Emily is part of GRID’s National Women in Solar Initiative, in partnership with SunEdison, to inspire more women to get into the solar industry. To find out more about women’s builds and getting involved, visit our Women in Solar page.
RISE (Realizing an Inclusive Solar Economy) is another GRID initiative, also in partnership with SunEdison, that focuses on all the elements that comprise a successful workforce development program: Recruitment, real-world experience, readiness, referrals, and retention.
