News from the North Coast: A Progress Update

It’s been six months since our satellite office launched into the North Coast to serve the many tribal nations in that region. We’re thrilled to report all we’ve accomplished!

From the first of the year to today, GRID has successfully lead teams of volunteers on a total of 17 GRID installs for seven different tribes in the North Coast! Our team of two – Maggie Graham, Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator, and Cora Saxton, Solar Installation Supervisor – are making extraordinary partnerships with people and connections to the grid in both Lake and Mendocino counties these past couple months. Check out these stats!

Big Valley Band of Pomo Indians: 5 homes; 20.9 Kw
Hopland Rancheria: 1 home; 2.6 Kw
Manchester Band of Pomo Indians: 5 homes; 15.4 Kw
Pinoleville Pomo Nation: 1 home; 4.9 Kw
Redwood Valley Rancheria: 1 home; 3.6 Kw
Robinson Rancheria: 2 homes; 4.9 Kw
Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians: 3 homes; 13.6 Kw

We’ve installed 68.7 Kilowats with the projected impacts for the families and the region: nearly $600,000 in value of energy generated from these systems over their estimated 30-year lifetime, and over 1,500 tons of carbon emissions prevented (the offset equivalent of planting over 40,000 trees or taking 320 cars off the road for one year!) Additionally, our installations have already provided 200 hours of hands-on experience in solar installation to job seekers in the community.

In the next three months you can find GRID’s North Coast team finishing three more installations on Big Valley tribal land and then onto Ukiah’s Guidiville Reservation to install solar systems for eight families - and more!

As we reflect on our success, we'd like to thank the anonymous lead donor through the San Francisco Foundation whose support made the satellite office a reality.
