A few months ago, the final panel was placed and the wires were tied-in on the final solar home of a 10 home Walnut Creek Habitat for Humanity development – now filled with 10 families.
As Habitat for Humanity continued construction on the new homes, GRID and our volunteer installation crews worked to get all homes in the development solar-ready for their new homeowners. Thanks to teams from Wells Fargo, PG&E, Sunrun, and our AWESOME community volunteers we have installed solar on all 10 homes in the newly established Walnut Creek Development.
Over the systems lifespans the 26 kW worth of solar on these homes will generate $220,000 worth of energy savings direct to the families, and prevent 680 tons of carbon emissions – the offset equivalent of taking 120 cars off the road for one year! Standing on the rooftop, looking out on the sea of blue glass with Mount Diablo in the background is an awe-inspiring, beautiful thing.
Over the years we have partnered with Habitat as contractor for their Solar Habitat program. We’re especially excited to bring solar to another Habitat for Humanity development – this one in San Francisco – as part of our Annual 2014 Solarthon!
