The holidays came early for the Granados family of San Francisco this year. On Friday, December 18, a team of employee volunteers from PG&E’s distributed generation team came out with GRID Alternatives to put solar panels on their roof, providing them with energy cost savings for years to come. With three generations under one roof, the family is looking forward to the relief the 2.9kW system will provide.
"What a great time of year to do this for a family,” said Gurkan Ozgurel, one of the volunteers. “I want to come out and do this more next year."
For Ozgurel and the others, it was a chance to not only contribute to their community, but also deepen their understanding of their own work.
“This is the team at PG&E that is directly involved with the more than 200,000 solar customers in our service area,” said PG&E’s Darren Deffner, who organized the group. “An installation with GRID is the perfect way for us to get out there and touch and feel the technology that we are helping customers with.”
PG&E volunteers installed solar with GRID throughout the utility’s service area this year, part of a ten-year partnership with GRID that also includes support for our SolarCorps fellowship program. Daisy Meyer, a workforce development fellow at GRID’s Bay Area office, was out with the volunteers on Friday, teaching them about the system and helping with the installation.
