The Colorado Energy Office, GRID Alternatives and Delta-Montrose Electric Association announce the development of a community solar array that will lower the electric bills of qualified low-income residents in the DMEA service territory. 

The Delta Montrose Electric Association has partnered with GRID Alternatives and Colorado Energy Office to offset the energy burden for low-income families on a large scale. The 570 solar panels--nearly 150 kilowatts--will cut energy costs nearly in half for forty-five moderate- to low-income families.

Steve and Sue Sidebottom have been pinching pennies since Steve became disabled and their monthly income plummeted as a result. When it came to their energy bills, the couple took steps toward efficiency, but the actual utility cost was another matter. 

The Colorado Energy Office is beginning a solar pilot project it believes is the first of its kind in the country. Five solar energy projects, installed by GRID Alternatives, will supply electricity to about 300 low-income individuals.

September 2015 - The Colorado Energy Office has provided $1.2 million grant funding to GRID Alternatives, a non-profit organization, to develop community solar photovoltaic (PV) projects exclusively for low-income residents in Colorado. 

Earlier this week, GRID Alternatives and NeighborWorks America announced a partnership to provide solar to low-income families. Nine communities across the United States will receive funding and training under the program.
