On November 3, 2015, GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles completed our 1000th installation in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Watts for the Valtierra family.
Jose Valtierra and his wife, Natividad Morales along with their four children, live in Watts and own a struggling shoe store. They do all they can to save money. They were hesitant to apply to GRID’s program because it sounded too good to be true, but it is true and we are glad they did.
What does it mean for Los Angeles that we have completed 1000 installs? It means since GLA opened its doors in 2007, it has installed over 3 megawatts’ (MW) worth of rooftop solar installations for low-income families across the region, saving $22.3 million in expected electricity costs over the project lifetimes and preventing over 64,000 tons of harmful greenhouse gas emissions – equal to taking over 12,000 cars off the road for one year.
We are looking forward to doing 1000 more starting with 320 new solar projects in 2016 alone, totaling one megawatt of total generation capacity!
