Here at GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles, we are celebrating Veteran’s Day by bringing solar to a disabled veteran in need. The solar electric system will be given to Albert Tate of Carson, California and will be installed by an all veteran crew, led by a veteran, GLA’s Solar Installation Supervisor Edgardo Gonzales.
Albert Tate is a retired Sergeant from the U.S. Army who served for six years (1973-1979) in Korea. He chose to go solar because he heard great things about renewable energy such as the savings it would bring and the positive environmental impact. Mr. Tate said that with his savings he will be starting a college fund for his 16 year old son. In his free time he loves to go to the library to read. Some of his favorite topics are politics and social/world issues. He loves listening to talk radio as well, and is very excited to be going solar.
We would also like to announce our local Troops to Solar initiative for 2015-2016. GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles plans to lead the local initiative by offering unique veterans-only training opportunities, doing six veterans-only and veteran-led installations in 2016, holding solar design courses with spots reserved specifically for veterans, and connecting veterans to solar industry employers with a goal of getting job interviews for a dozen or more veterans.
Happy Veteran’s Day, and to all those who have served and still are serving, we thank you for your service.
