If you are a veteran and want experience in one of the fastest growing segments of the economy, GRID Alternatives is your solution. Troops to Solar, our newly launched program, provides no-cost solar installation training for veterans allowing them to develop the skills local solar contractors seek. Come join our program to connect with other veterans while focusing on how to apply skills learned during your military career.
Former Marine Scott Chapman became involved with GRID to gain industry-specific, solar installation experience as he transitioned to the civilian workforce. What he got out of it was much more. Volunteering with GRID gave him an opportunity to work with others who served and could relate to the challenges they face returning to civilian life.
Chapman mentioned that vets have similar experiences and connecting with other veterans is always good. The camaraderie and value of Troops to Solar’s networking potential were immediate for chapman because he even met up with a fellow Marine from prior service in Japan years ago. This made teamwork instantaneous as Chapman applied his knowledge of assembling systems to solar installation. He has now participated in over 30 installs and credits his time with GRID to landing a job at a Temecula based solar company.
Chapman added, “I was a maintenance chief but my off-duty time was spent volunteering in orphanages in Mongolia and South Korea. I was attracted to GRID because it allows me an outlet to build while giving back to the community.”
Bank of America donated $10,000 in support of our Troops to Solar initiative. Their IE Market President Al Arguello spoke highly of the program saying “We are excited about participating in GRID’s Troops to Solar program. Bank of America has a particular affinity to veterans and this program encompasses several key aspects of our community initiatives. GRID has an excellent training program for veterans, they help low income families and are positively impacting the environment.”
Stay tuned for our next Troops to Solar event scheduled for Veterans Day in November. But if you want to get started on the pathway to a successful career in solar installation, contact GRID today.
