On June 8, 2017, families, neighbors, and friends of the GRID family gathered in the scenic Kingman Island park for the second annual Solar-bration event organized by the outreach team of GRID Alternatives Mid-Atlantic.

“Groups of women are kind of the best when it comes to getting things done efficiently and effectively,” said Nicole Steele. We Build is an all-women’s solar installation, part of GRID Alternatives’ national Women in Solar Program, working to build a diverse, equitable, and inclusive solar industry.

GRID Alternatives Mid-Atlantic joined Constellation Energy and The National Energy Education (NEED) Project to educate a group of high school students from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School about possible job opportunities in the clean energy field.

Thanks to solar, 94 tenants living in the Parkchester Apartments in Southeast D.C. will soon have fully renovated units, new energy efficient appliances, and a new community space. These renovations are possible because of a new 118 kW solar system.

GRID Alternatives Mid-Atlantic kicked-off our Solar Futures program this month at Phelps Architecture, Construction, and Engineering High School. Solar Futures is a national GRID program working to provide opportunities to K-14 students to learn more about solar power and illuminate career pathways in the booming solar industry.

Champagne, gifts, flowers, and party favors - that’s how most people picture a bridal shower. Instead, Leslie imagined hardhats, harnesses, ladders, and power tools. Leslie and her bridesmaids participated in GRID Alternatives Mid-Atlantic’s new Solar Champions program, raising money for GRID to install a solar system that will save a DC homeowner approximately $700 a year, and prevent about 100 tons of greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere.
