Which is the greater challenge: raising $2,000 for climate change advocacy or pedaling over 200 miles through the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia?
At the end of September, I’ll be pedaling my bike 208 miles over the course of 3 days as a part of this year’s Climate Ride. The Climate Ride is an opportunity to raise awareness about climate change and environmental issues, as well as raise funds for organizations, like GRID Alternatives, which are actively working in these areas.
My work as a solar installer for GRID is important to me. I get to help underserved communities have access to solar, while reducing fossil fuel use and training people for jobs in the solar industry. I also love cycling and jump at opportunities to spend hours behind the handlebars. The Climate Ride is an opportunity for me to merge my excitement for environmental protection and my cycling passion.
So, how can you help me on this journey? There are two ways:
1. Support my Climate Ride! The easiest way to donate is to visit my fundraising site: https://support.climateride.org/participant/Dave-Johnson
2. Spread the word! You can share my fundraising page on your social media or even in an email to a few environmentally conscious or cycling savvy friends. Also consider signing up to be a volunteer for GRID's Solarthon on October 8th, where you’ll learn even more about how solar works and how it can save money and help the environment. You can also refer friends and neighbors to us to see if they are eligible for solar through GRID.
So is raising $2,000 or biking 200 miles a greater challenge? I’ll let you know!
