After being laid off, Batrina went to the Department of Employment Services looking for a job. It was there she learned about Solar Works DC, and applied for the program because of her interest in sustainability and living off grid. Without previous construction or electrical experience, Batrina has been happily surprised to find that she loves installing solar and working hands-on in the field and on the roof. She is particularly proud, as a DC native, to be taking part in this new DC program. "I never thought DC would have something like this. So to be part of this is awesome; it's great. I feel like a pioneer of sorts."
