A Year of Changing Lives

It’s been a year since Solar Works DC launched - see the impacts to date!

59 income-qualified families with no-cost solar systems. This helps people like Homeowner Linda, who will save over $500 annually on her electricity bills to make her mortgage payments as a first-time homeowner.

$888,000 in lifetime savings for these families. Low-income families typically spend the highest proportion of their income on energy bills, yet have the least amount of access to clean energy technology to provide them bill relief. These savings go right into the pockets of people who need it the most.

5,700 tons of greenhouse gas emissions prevented from entering the atmosphere. By promoting renewable energy, we are creating solutions to reduce climate change impacts, supporting DC’s Renewable Portfolio Standard, which aims for DC to be 50% renewable energy by 2032.

78 individuals trained in solar installation skills. These individuals are being prepared to pursue careers in solar and related industries through hands-on job training. For many, this program is breaking down barriers and giving them the skills needed to get started in the growing DC solar industry. The program has already seen great success; within three months of the commencement of the Fall 2017 cohort, 50% of the individuals had been placed in a solar job. Within a week of the Spring 2018 graduation, 9 of the 22 trainees were placed in solar jobs.

We can’t wait to see what the next year of Solar Works DC will bring!
