GRID Bay Area’s 2020 Volunteer Program

As the solar landscape changes and we continue to do more and more multifamily and commercial projects with less predictability on volunteer engagement opportunities, we have updated our volunteer program in order to be more intentional and serve a wider variety of diverse interests in the GRID community.

So what’s new?

Public Install Opportunities
We will continue to post public install opportunities on our single-family and multi-family projects across the Bay Area as they become available, with the hopes of maintaining 2+ community installs each month. Starting this year, these installs may be tailored to serve specific segments of GRID’s community:

Job Trainees - Priority access will be given to those seeking hands on training in order to find employment in the solar industry. Want to make sure you have you listed as a job trainee? Email us at volunteerba@gridalternatives.org

GRID Members - Priority access will be given to members that are contributing to our mission year round, allowing our member community the opportunity to be a part of the impact they are making possible. Become a member today!

General Public - Priority access will be given to volunteers who may have been previously waitlisted or not served by our tailored install opportunities.

Information about the install type will be listed in the volunteer opportunity description. Make sure to turn on email notifications to stay up to date as new installs get posted on the volunteer portal!

Monthly Workshop Series

We will continue to host a monthly workshop series at our office in Oakland, it just might not take place on a Third Thursday! With this change, we hope to serve more of our community with varied schedules and bring in more industry experts, host a wider range of events, and engage more GRID supporters throughout the year.

Have an idea for a workshop or want to help us host an event? Email us at volunteerba@gridalternatives.org

Additional Opportunities
We know that there is more interest in supporting our team then there is opportunity to get out on a roof with us - that’s why in 2020 we will be posting additional volunteer and construction shadowing opportunities throughout the year. These will include:

  • Monthly/quarterly warehouse support
  • Quarterly practice roof sessions
  • Solar Installation Supervisor shadowing sessions

Keep your eyes peeled for these opportunities as they will continue to be added to the volunteer portal, or email us at volunteerba@gridalternatives.org for more information!
