Staff Spotlight: Meet Andrew Hayes

Welcome to our new Staff Spotlight feature, where we share a brief interview to introduce you to some of our amazing staff members here at GRID Bay Area! This month we’d like to introduce you to our newest Solar Installation Supervisor Andrew Hayes. He’s the type of guy who fixes up old VWs and rides a purple BMW motorcycle named Barney. Quick to smile and patient while teaching, he’s a great person to meet and learn from when you’re out in the field. Keep checking back to meet more fabulous GRID Bay Area staffers!

Name: Andrew Hayes, Bay Area Solar Installation Supervisor

How did you come to grid?

"I was taking a solar class at Laney College in Oakland and a friend in the industry recommended I get hands on training from GRID. From there, I became a Team Leader and starting taking GRID workshops before getting hired as an SIS."

What is your favorite GRID moment?

“Solarthon 2016 in Novato. It was amazing to see the transformation of independent power and people collaborating together to get the work done and the community that it created."

What is a fun fact about you?

"I biked across Brussels to Amsterdam with my wife in 2010 - for the beer and the exercise (to work off the beer). I’m a fan of being on two wheels."

What GRID Value most resonates with you?

"Collaboration - I think that it’s an under appreciated quality in society at large, so when you can actually see it happen, it’s great. I’ve been a part of about 80 installs since starting in October, so there has had to be a lot of collaboration amongst GRID SISs and volunteers."
