Aspiring to be a GRID Electrician

Miguel Rodriguez has strong ties to California’s Central Valley, he was born in Merced, raised Dos Palos and with his father commuting to Fresno for work on a regular basis, his parents decided to move their family to Fresno in 2002. While Miguel was in high school, he played football and started working for his uncle in construction. During this time, he also watched his mother put herself through school and raise a family. This inspired him to have a good work ethic and when the time came, focus on his own family. With the lessons learned, he spent over ten years  working as a warehouse clerk in a local packing house. It brought stability and allowed him to provide for his family. Then after a recent layoff, Miguel took the opportunity to consider other career paths and decided that with the push to find alternatives energy sources, solar would be a career field he would be interested in exploring. After researching GRID Alternatives online, he enrolled in their Installation Basic Training (IBT 200) and graduated on March 8, 2024. Shortly after, Miguel joined GRID Alternative Central Valley as one of the newest construction assistants.

When Miguel is not on the job, his focus is on family. Happily married to Melissa, they have two boys together. Both boys are active in sports and video games. On the weekends, the family enjoys spending time together. During the summer, they are often seen at the lake fishing and cooling off.  When he’s not with his family and has time to himself, he enjoys listening to inspirational podcasts.

This is Miguel’s first time working for a non-profit. He enjoys the environment and says the team is treating him well. He plans on growing his skills with GRID and aspires to train to become an electrician for GRID in the near future.
