From recruiting efforts to teaching a class and giving speeches at graduation, Elvira Arias Velasco has become instrumental in the success of our Installation Basics training program (IBT 200.) As a Workforce Coordinator, she manages all the paperwork (which we all love to do) and keeps it safe. Being detail-minded and organized, Elvira has dramatically increased the efficiency of our workflow. Her constant smile reminds the team of her gratitude, keeping them in good spirits. All in all, she is a tremendous asset to our organization.
Elvira was born and raised in Torrance, a beach community in Southern California, with her twin sister and mom. In high school, she became mindful of the planet. Elvira started sustainable habits, which led her to pursue and receive a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Environmental Science in 2019 from California State University - Fresno (CSUF). Before starting her SolarCorps Fellowship program with GRID in September 2022, she worked in retail for four years. She gained much customer service experience and loved it, but she wanted something worthwhile. After completing her fellowship in the fall of 2023, she was hired full-time as our Workforce Coordinator.
Elvira strongly desires to contribute to the efforts to help her community transition to renewable energy. She has a heart for serving others, and her work and the people around her reflect that. She supports her friends by attending local events in which they participate, mainly Art Hop. Elvira is loyal to her core and identifies as a Latina due to her cultural background. She also has an incredible work ethic, which she credits to her mother. Reflecting on her journey so far, she's grateful to have a career she loves and to serve a community dear to her heart.
