GRID Bay Area is thrilled to celebrate the successful installation of our 1000th solar installation – all on the rooftops of local low-income families! In the lifespan of these systems, these families will save an estimated $26 million – real savings that can go towards other basic needs. The systems will also spare the air an estimated 80,000 tons of harmful greenhouse gas emissions, the carbon offset equivalent of taking nearly 13,000 cars off the road for one year! Additionally, these systems have provided over 75,000 hours of hands-on experience in solar installation, helping job seekers prepare for work in the growing industry.
This success came from humble beginnings: hatched 10 years ago in a Berkeley apartment, GRID completed only two installations in our first year. While that seemed big at the time, it pales in comparison to the 1000 (and counting!) local installations we’ve completed to date that are helping to make clean, renewable energy available to everyone.
Today’s milestone would never be possible without the community partners, volunteers, donors, sponsors, and amazing clients who have supported us along the way. Thank you! Here’s to 1000 more!
GRID’s Bay Area office serves all 9 counties of the Bay Area, in addition to Lake, Mendocino, Humboldt, and Del Norte counties under our North Coast satellite office. Click here to see the map of our 1000 solar installations!
