Replacing an old vehicle can pose a financial concern. With help from the Bay Area Air District’s Clean Cars for All (CCFA) program, Erwin Bork was able to purchase a Chevy Bolt.
Due to its cost-effectiveness and energy efficiency, Bork wanted to reduce greenhouse gases and try to tackle climate change by purchasing an electric vehicle EV. His 23-year-old van was experiencing transmission issues, so he sought out support from the CCFA program to purchase an EV. Bork states, “I certainly appreciate the program and how it has helped us and I’m sure there are many others that are just as fortunate.”
While Bork was initially hesitant to drive his electric car on a long-distance trip because accessibility to charging posed to be a challenge, he found reliable charging stations on his route to Tahoe and encourages others to take a leap of faith when it comes to electric vehicles—
“[It] can be intimidating to a lot of people, including myself, but I’ve done it a few times and once you start getting a feel of where the stations are- it’s not such a big deal.”

Bork, having faced financial difficulties, appreciates programs like CCFA program that aids “others who may not have quite as much money to be able to purchase a new vehicle especially in the EV direction.”
CCFA is administered by the Bay Area Air District, and case management services are provided by GRID Alternatives. CCFA is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment – particularly in disadvantaged communities.
The CCFA program aims to reduce your financial concerns and carbon footprint. Bay Area residents can receive up to $12,000 towards a new or used plug-in hybrid, battery electric, or fuel cell electric vehicle when they retire a 2007 or older gas vehicle. Additionally, up to $2,000 in charging incentives is available for those who purchase a plug-in electric vehicle. Residents can also opt for a pre-paid card to use for public transit and purchase e-bikes. As of April 16th, 2025, the program has assisted more than 5,200 applicants in their purchase towards a clean vehicle. If you are in need of a new vehicle and hope to contribute towards a greener Earth, you might consider participating in the CCFA program!
CCFA is open and only accepting applications for a backup list, but residents are encouraged to apply.
