Homeowners, Hilda and Rafael Barragan are the type of people who enjoy making new friends everywhere they go. Whether it's the dentist or getting groceries, their kids would think mom and dad knew these people, but they've just met them. Hilda and Rafael are the same people who didn't believe that a no-cost solar system could be genuine. But after seeing one of their electric bills drop from $280 to $40 a month, we can safely say that now, they are. In fact, they're so thrilled with their savings that they have already referred several families to us.
Hilda and Rafael were both born in Mexico. When her family immigrated to California, Hilda was 11 years old. A few years later, Rafael would arrive with his family in his mid-teens. They were introduced to each other by relatives at a wedding, and a few years later, they married. Both lived in small towns in California; Hilda lived in Riverdale, and Rafael lived in San Joaquin. They wanted to live in a bigger city and be closer to school and work, so they moved to Kerman shortly after. This is their second home, and they've lived here for five years. They have three children, two of whom are currently attending college. Hilda is a paraeducator for Kerman Unified School District, and Rafael is a farm worker specializing in irrigation. Family plays a huge role in their lives so much of their time is dedicated to that endeavor. But when they have alone time, Hilda enjoys hiking in the surrounding areas, and Rafael tends to his garden.
It's been nearly a year since they applied, so Hilda is trying to remember exactly where she found us. She says it was either from a TV advertisement or Facebook. With energy costs rising, the couple looked into going solar. However, after receiving quotes and seeing how expensive it was, she realized it wasn't an option. So, when she heard of a company providing solar at no cost, she submitted an application to GRID, but forgot to tell Rafael. Rafael couldn't understand why we kept calling them and he never responded. It was when Rafael received his final notice from us that Hilda took action. She was going through his phone one day and noticed the email reminding her about the application. Once she called us, the rest is GRID history. "It's true, and it's possible, and even if you don't believe it, you should always have faith," Hilda Barragan.
