For the first time in GRID Central Valley’s history we were able to host a Job Shadow Day. On February 20, 2019 we were fortunate to partner up with Fresno Unified School District to demonstrate how we at GRID Alternatives operate as a Non-Profit solar organization.
Three students from Duncan Polytechnical High School as well as an administrator from Fresno Unified School District came to us to learn more about engineering and the renewable energy industry. After an orientation the students began our tour, “Interconnecting the Departments.” During this time the students learned the process of meeting the homeowner and seeing if they’re qualified, designing a system and running the permit for it, all the way to construction where we actually install the solar system. Next the students visited our warehouse where we explained the layout and how we prepare for an installation.
To wrap up the day we introduced the basics of conduit bending. The students were extremely eager to do some hands on activities. They quickly picked up how to bend conduit from one box to another. We then challenged them to bend conduit our mock walls which have J boxes, disconnects, and a main service panel! After a successful, educational, and fun filled day the students left smiling from ear to ear. They were very eager to take this knowledge home and share what they learned with their friends and families!
