SolarCorps Fellowship

It's that time of the year when we start recruiting for our next cohort of SolarCorps Fellows! In honor of this year's cohort, fellows share a fun fact and their most significant takeaway from serving at GRID Central Valley.

Tong Xiong is our Construction Fellow who shares his love for ice cream and deep appreciation for the program. SolarCorps allowed him the opportunity to learn solar installation and gave him a new career path. Fun fact about our Outreach Fellow Heidi Larreynaga is that she's the youngest of eight. She is grateful for her meaningful connection with the community she served. Neil Pierce, our Workforce Development Fellow, has an exciting hobby of collecting coins and old currency. His biggest takeaway has to be the staff he served with. Their kind-hearted approach to connecting with him has made his service meaningful. Reilly Deffendall, our Workforce Admin Fellow, is uniquely interested in sustainable transit development and city planning. His term as a fellow inspired him to take a new career path focusing on urban planning and sustainability. (not pictured) April Gonzalez, our Construction Design Fellow, enjoys nature and landscape photography on the weekends. Her biggest takeaway from her term is a new career with possibilities to explore.

What is SolarCorps? "GRID Alternatives SolarCorps Fellowship Program provides a career pipeline for individuals into the growing clean energy industry through an 11-month (paid) apprenticeship model. Fellows receive meaningful, hands-on work experience and long-term training in a supportive, inclusive environment."

As the year comes to a close, we celebrate the journeys of our Fellows. Many will continue with us as staff, while some will pursue further education. But what remains constant is the sense of community and the meaningful connections they've formed during their 11 months of service with us at GRID Central Valley. We are immensely grateful for their commitment and the positive impact they've made.
