TCC Bakersfield Partner Kickoff

Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) is a program led by the Strategic Growth Council that aims to improve air quality and deliver economic benefits to underserved communities. Three years ago, GRID Central Valley partnered with the City of Bakersfield to pursue a $1.6 million grant to install solar on 57 single-family homes—averaging 4.7 kW per home, totaling 258 kW. The project is set to launch in late 2025 and will run for five years.

On July 30th, the City of Bakersfield hosted a TCC kickoff event, bringing together community partners for an in-person celebration. After years of virtual meetings, it was energizing to reconnect face-to-face.

The event took place at CAPK’s Friendship House, where Chief Business Development Officer Pritika Ram set a lighthearted tone by bringing out basketballs—prompting a few impromptu hoops before the presentations began. The joy and relief of finally gathering in person and officially launching the project were felt by all.

“The biggest takeaway was gaining a deep appreciation for how much people and organizations value the community.” — Jesse Arreguin, Development Consultant, GRID Central Valley

GRID Central Valley extends its sincere thanks to the City of Bakersfield and the Strategic Growth Council for their continued partnership.
