Even though it had been raining for two weeks straight, the sun came out for our Client “Solar-bration” Picnic, held at the River Terrace neighborhood park by the Anacostia River. GRID wanted to show our gratitude to the homeowners in the Mid-Atlantic region who helped us grow our non-profit by getting solar installed on their roofs.
GRID staff, clients, neighbors, and volunteers gathered under the gazebo, enjoyed food donated by our neighborhood restaurant Shawafel, and shared their solar stories. Families and children also took part in our photo booth, coloring stations, and played Frisbee with a few of the GRID staff members in a nearby field.
Clients invited neighbors who were qualified homeowners, so they could learn about solar installation experiences and meet the GRID team. "I was able to speak to several members of the GRID family and I was quite pleased to see so many happy to have solar panels on their homes," said one homeowner. This particular homeowner invited the GRID Outreach team to come and talk about solar at her “green building” dental office, where they host “Wisdom Wednesdays” Workshops. Here, the staff, patients, and members of the community will be able to learn more about GRID Alternatives and the benefits of solar energy.
The client picnic brought people together to form new relationships and partnerships. “It was great to see homeowners meet with other homeowners and interact with the GRID family. Several said they would be sure to tell others about the services offered by GRID,” says Rozina Kanchwala, GRID Mid-Atlantic’s Outreach Coordinator. GRID Mid-Atlantic is excited to host more client picnics in the future, each hopefully bigger than the last, as our GRID family continues to grow.
