According to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), more than 20,000 veterans worked in the United States solar industry in 2020 — making up 9% of all solar workers. Yet many veterans face challenges when transitioning from active duty to civilian life.
Troops to Solar connects veterans to opportunities in the solar industry, helping ease their transition by preparing them to join a growing jobs sector.
Through their military service, veterans acquire technical skills to set them up for success. Additionally, the leadership and team mentality veterans acquire through service translates seamlessly into solar, where teams must work together to design and install systems.
GRID Mid-Atlantic previously implemented Troops to Solar programming through a partnership with SEIA and Wells Fargo.
One veteran, Jim, drove four hours the night before in order to work on this installation. “I wouldn’t have missed this; I got to help out a fellow veteran and also see what GRID Alternatives does to help veterans.”
