Community Members Give Back to Former Proteus Student

In the midst of the Central Valley heat, several Proteus students and community members gathered to help install a 3.27kW solar system on the roof of the Barcellos’ home.  A graduate from the local job training program, Proteus, Avelino Barcellos was thrilled to have solar installed by volunteers from GRID Alternatives. “It feels like such a relief to get solar on my home” states Avelino.

During an unfortunate event, Avelino lost an arm during his youth. Although, having one arm could be seen as a set-back to many, Avelino takes the challenge and continues to pursue his career in the solar industry to prove that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. “You are only as limited as you make yourself” states Avelino, who currently works on a solar farm.

As a former Proteus student and volunteer, Avelino’s passion for GRID Alternatives prompted his participation on install after install.  “My volunteer experience with GRID Alternatives was awesome because they treated me like family. I appreciated the fact that they didn’t treat me differently” states Avelino. “Barcellos, he is an amazing individual!  Initially, there were concerns regarding overall safety the first time he volunteered with us; however, when we all witnessed what he is capable of, the terms “limitless and hardworker” depict Avelino’s character” states Solar Installation Supervisor, Andy Rusli. We are proud to make a difference in the lives of the Barcellos’ family.
