On February 20 and 21, 2014 Grid Alternatives’ Central Valley office launched educational partnership activities with two Kern High School District Schools; Independence High School and South High Schools. GRID and Kern High School District entered into a formal partnership on February 20, 2014 through execution of a Memorandum of Understanding delineating their partnership. Student teams representing both Independence and South High Schools collaborated with GRID Alternatives construction supervisors and team leaders in installing two 3 Kilowatt systems in the city of Lamont. Students were taught the basics of solar installation utilizing GRID’s “Classroom on the Roof” model of learning. In all, 22 students participated in the two day installations.
Tom Esqueda, Regional Director for GRID’s Central Valley office stated that, “GRID Alternatives is committed to working hand in hand with local school districts to provide training and educational experiences for high school students interested in pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math”. He further stated that, “investing in training opportunities for tomorrow’s industry leaders makes great sense and helps build a well-trained technically savvy work force for our region. It doesn’t get much better than that”.
