Last week at GRID GLA, we celebrated four years of working with Mitsubishi Electric’s Photovoltaic Division with two solar installations for low-income families. Both the Medina and Wong families were ecstatic to receive their new solar electric systems installed by volunteers from Mitsubishi and Cal State University of Long Beach (CSULB). Mrs. Medina and Mr. Wong are both seniors citizens and have lived in their homes and communities for decades.
Mr. Wong is a graduate of CSULB himself and veteran of the Vietnam War. While serving, he saw action during the famous Tet Offensive. Mr. Wong was a reservist for four years after he service ended.
Esteban Medina, Mrs. Medina's son, is a previous GRID GLA volunteer who has recently begun a career in the solar industry. He decided to switch careers to solar after a series of dead end jobs.
Thanks to the two solar electric installations, completed by students from Cal State Long Beach, and employees from Mitsubishi, a total of 124 tons of greenhouse gas emissions are projected to be prevented. In addition, the two families are expected to save approximately $60,306 from the energy produced by the systems.
Thank you to Cal State University Long Beach, Mitsubishi Electric and the Mitsubishi Foundation for helping two more families go solar! We look forward to many more years of collaboration.
