GRID Celebrates 100th No-cost Solar Installation in Stockton with new Electric Vehicle Charger

We reached another huge milestone in the North Valley! This month we celebrated our 100th solar installation for underserved families in Stockton and provided our first electric vehicle charger to the Ahmed family on their single-story home. Through our Energy for All program and Clean Mobility initiative, GRID makes solar power and job training accessible to low-income communities. The 17-panel solar system and electric vehicle charger will save this local family over $32,000 throughout the system’s lifetime and decrease fuel costs while contributing to cleaner air through reduced emissions.

Nisar Ahmed, his wife Shahnaz and their 5 children settled in California from Pakistan in 1978. Nisar worked very hard for years in several jobs such as; a butcher, cook, field, and laborer. Their family was able to purchase their home in 2009. “We heard about GRID’s solar program through our cousin, Rehana Ahmed,” said Nisar Ahmed, the homeowner. “We are really excited to have solar for our home! We have an electric vehicle already, but it runs off of our electricity. To have the new charger that’s being installed by GRID will help reduce our costs even more and we are very grateful to have solar power.” We are replacing gasoline with sunshine and we believe it’s the future of utilizing energy and better for the environment!
