We had a beautiful day at the Martinez residence in south Sacramento last Friday and Saturday at our Sacramento Women’s build! I loved hearing multiple languages spoken on the roof as a volunteer conversed in Spanish with the homeowner client and two electrical engineering exchange students from China discussed their experience in Chinese. Our homeowner, who works at an organic café, prepared a delicious and nutritious meal for the volunteers! Several participants were very enthusiastic about their experience and have already signed up for more installs. One volunteer, who has worked as a recruiter for a construction firm for 20 years, finally got to see what it was like to work on the roof, which she said was an amazing opportunity to experience what her clients experience that will no doubt enrich her perspective and perhaps even bring a new dimension to her work. A few of our volunteers, students in construction and engineering, were complete naturals at installing solar and are now driven and motivated to begin our team leader training program. All in all, it was a wonderful two days of hard work, smiles, and inspiration. We’re proud of our women volunteers who are strong, talented, and bold enough to break the mold and help the construction field evolve toward a more diverse workforce!
