Solar Access for Nationwide Affordable Housing (SANAH) is on its way! This groundbreaking program, funded by the EPA and led by GRID Alternatives, is designed to bring the benefits of clean energy to income-qualified and environmental justice communities across America. 

SANAH is committed to creating a more equitable and sustainable future for all. Stay connected and help us bring the power of solar to affordable housing communities nationwide!

What to Expect:

  • Hang tight—SANAH is under construction! GRID Alternatives is hard at work finalizing its grant and work plan with the US EPA.
  • SANAH is slated to launch by May 1, 2025, and will be funded over five years to provide solar access and its benefits to families living in affordable housing nationwide through April 2029.
  • SANAH will operate in over half of the United States, with a focus on 29 priority states and territories.
  • SANAH will offer 
    • Equitable access and reduced energy costs: SANAH will help about 37,000 households of affordable housing residents save money on their utility bills through single-family, multifamily, and community solar installations, battery storage systems on a limited basis, and enabling upgrades.
    • Environmental benefits: Solar energy is renewable, helping to combat climate change and improve air quality.
    • Job training opportunities: The program will create job training and workforce development opportunities in the renewable energy sector.
    • Contracting opportunities: To catalyze wealth-building opportunities through this historic program, GRID’s Mission-Aligned Contractor Network will recruit, resource, and leverage a nationwide network of diverse installers and other professional service providers, with a focus on small- and disadvantaged business enterprises to tap trusted community networks to deploy projects locally.
