Vanessa Van Scyoc Hernandez

Tribal Program Construction Assistant
Vanessa joined the GRID Tribal Team in May 2021, immediately after graduating from the University of Colorado Boulder. During her time in CU Boulder, she earned her BS in Electrical & Computer Engineering, and found her passion for Environmental Activism and Renewable Energy through multiple research internships and projects at the Mortenson Center of Global Engineering and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). She is devoted to her goal of using the power of renewables to create positive change in underserved communities around the world. Her passion reached a peak during a project in Navajo Nation while installing an off-grid system at a client's home. On the entire way to this secluded home that's never been provided electricity are massive power lines. These are constant cynical reminders of how big energy exploit and use native lands but never share it with the native community. That moment, Vanessa knew GRID Tribal was the perfect place to launch her career with its focus on giving back to those communities by using renewable energy for workforce development and Energy Sovereignty.
