GRID is Working to Install Solar at Dada Faya Health Post and Birthing Center in Nepal

Karnali Academy Humla 2023
Travel on an adventure to Nepal with GRID to install a solar on a health post and birthing center!

Dada Faya Health Post and Birthing Centerlocated in Dada Faya, Humla, Nepal, is an off-grid health post and birthing center that provides services such as an Out Patient Department for general medical services, vaccinations, nutrition distributions, Directly Observed Therapy services and community health campaigns. This post has 8 staff members and serves 2361 people from 5 surrounding villages, including 12-15 patients per day.  The health post has a small 12V solar system that powers LED lights but is not large enough to power the medical equipment it needs.

Solar will enable the post to use autoclave machines, a baby warmer, water motors, flashlights, laptops, and imagery machines. Without electricity, medical workers use mobile cell phone lights to perform birth deliveries. They cannot use electric baby warmers for newborns. The health post has a water shortage because its water pump motor needs electricity. Solar can help power the water pump to bring water to the health post.

GRID is working with Dada Faya Health Post and Birthing Center to install a solar electric system to bring a source of reliable, renewable electricity to their health center. Solar will allow Dada Faya Health Post and Birthing Center to improve its patient care so that it can better serve the local communities.
