Congratulations to our partners from the Bishop Paiute Tribe, Chippewa Cree Tribe, Rosebud Sioux Tribal Utility Commission, and the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians! The Department of Energy announced this week that these tribes have been awarded funding to work with GRID to bring solar to even more tribal members.
The Bishop Paiute Tribe of Bishop, California will work with our Inland Empire office to install 20 kilowatts of solar on 34 homes, saving homeowners about $1.29 million over the life of the systems and furthering the Tribe’s vision to install solar energy systems on all buildings on the Reservation where feasible.
The Chippewa Cree Tribe in Box Elder, Montana will work with GRID to install 21 kilowatts of solar on three duplexes on the Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation. This will offset nearly thirty percent of the residents’ electricity usage and reduce approximately 22 percent of their gross income currently spent on electricity.
The Rosebud Sioux Tribal Utility Commission of Rosebud, South Dakota will install 58 kilowatts of solar on ten homes in partnership with GRID, the Rosebud Housing Authority and Sinte Gleska University (SGU). The project will support the Tribe’s Strategic Energy Plan and is estimated to meet 40 of the current electricity demand, in addition to providing job training opportunities for SGU students.
The San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians in Valley Center, Pauma Valley, and Santa Ysabel, California will work with our San Diego affiliate to install 42 grid-tied solar systems on 40 homes and two community buildings, offsetting an estimated 50 percent of their energy demand.
